Meralco Doubled Electric Bill

I believe everyone in the Philippines is angry at Meralco for doubling its electric bill this April, the Philippines is one of the most expensive electricity in Asia. I don't think it is right for Meralco to increase the electric bill whenever they want to, a lot of people suffer from this especially the business community. Is there anyone in the government who will do something about this? or does Meralco have close ties to the government so that they can increase their bills anytime they want to?
